Providing treatments to understand and manage persistent, unwanted and intrusive thoughts and behaviours
What is OCD?
OCD is a disorder characterized by persistent, unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that lead to high levels of anxiety or discomfort, resulting in a strong urge to engage in repetitive behaviours (compulsions) aimed at reducing that anxiety. Common OCD themes include concerns about contamination, cleanliness, safety, and symmetry. These persistent thoughts and behaviours are time-consuming and interfere with daily living and functioning.
Effective OCD Treatment
At Red Oak, our psychologists treat OCD by teaching psychological strategies to manage intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviours using evidence-based practices, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP).
